Medicinal Chemistry

Jessica is a student of Medicinal Chemistry. Below she explains why she chose Leeds and what makes her passionate about Medicinal Chemistry:

How come you chose Leeds?
I chose Leeds because I liked the course and Leeds has a really nice student life; it has a good reputation for being student friendly, as a university.

Why did you choose Medicinal Chemistry?
I’ve just always been a science person and if you do chemistry you can always go into other things, whereas if you do a more vocational science degree you have already chosen your career and I wanted time to really think about it.

What is it that makes you passionate about studying medicinal chemistry?
I think that the fact that there are so many applications. The actual chemistry is the most interesting bit and the way that you can relate it to everything else is really good.

What do you like best about the School of Chemistry?
I think that the labs are the best bit. They are well equipped and you have everything you need. I also like the fact that they are so flexible, so if you get it done quickly you get time off.

Have you been involved in any social activities?
I have joined a few societies, I volunteer at the RAG and I play chess and so I am a member of the chess society.

What would you say to other students thinking of coming to Leeds University?
That it’s a good mix of a university with a good reputation academically and a really good student life.
